For Life

For the first time in months last week I headed out to the local casino for a little one-armed bandit fun. As I turned onto the very busy Prairie Meadows Drive, not one, but two goose families had four lanes of traffic stopped. One parent in the front; another in the back, herding their respective brood of cygnets from Point A to Point B, single file. Fascinating.

Make Way for Goslings

Don't know how I missed your comment with your blog url. What is that bird that Jacob is holding?? Did it fly away?

I wasn't there, but Jane said it was some sort of woodpecker. I think it was new to flying and so didn't take off.

I think we may know who we have, be sure to look at all the pics. I have never seen this Flicker before! Do you still see them around?

That looks like the one. I saw him again this year, but don't find myself outside enough to do much birdwatching. The seem to like my overgrown backyard.

same thing happened to me last week on 50th street. cars backed up for a good 1/4 mile each direction...and the only honks were from the birds.
